On July 6, 2024, we decided to take our family out on the Red Deer River for a river float. The weather was hot and humid, so everyone was looking forward to cooling off in the river.
Rowen Adventures provides free of charge to its guests, access to 3 river boats, 2 kayaks, and 5 river tubes. Various life jacket sizes are also available. With a little help from my daughter, we were loaded up and ready to go!
We utilized the drop point below, so we could use the river’s current to propel us home to Rowen Adventures.
The drop point is a low-level crossing, so it
allows for very easy access to the river. There is lots of room for vehicle parking and you can turn a trailer around here if needed. This is a dry weather road only! The drop point is grass mixed with a bit of dirt road for the last 50 yards, so it can get very muddy after a big rain.
As you enter the water, be sure to push yourself away from shore as quickly as possible towards the centre of the river, to make sure you avoid tree branches along the bank of the first curve. Don’t worry, this is easy to do!
Depending on the river flow, this route can take anywhere from 1 – 2.5 hours without any paddling. It took us 1.5 hours to make the trip this day.
Pro Tip: Pack a cooler so you can enjoy a cold beverage along the way! There is lots of room on the boats for any gear or snacks you might want to bring along.
